Andy worked for his father, but the fathers "old country" ways caused a problem between them and Andy quit and started his own business. Behind Andy is his first "company" truck. He did well, and prospered. Ron remembers a party in 1953 when his parents "burned the mortgage on their home."

After his basic training at Brookley Field, Andy was sent to California and lived in one of the horse stalls at Santa Anita Racetrack. One weekend--during a problematic period when the local "Zootsuiters" were causing trouble in Los Angeles--the base commander canceled all military leave, then ordered the MP's not to arrest anyone violating this command. Many soldiers left, beating up the Mexican Zootsuiters, and stripping them of their baggy pants. Andy recounted this story many times to his son Ronnie, and of his involvement.
