- Death Certificate: Died at Beaumont Hospital Farmington Hills, Michigan, of pneumonia. Suffered also from arteriosclerosis. Date of death was July 26, 1962, at 4:45 Pm. SSN--375-05-0066. Address was listed as 15730 Ward Avenue, Detroit, Michigan. Joe suffered a stroke approximately 17 years prior to his death, and spent many years at the Whitehall Convelescent Home in Farmington, Michigan . He was paralyzed and could not walk nor talk. From the recollection of Ronald Snowden, his mind functioned well.

Also, the clerks office in Columbia City, Indiana has r ecord of the marriage. Affiant further states that neither he nor Rosa were previously married. Dated March 24, 189 8. Rosa's name was given as Rosa Riley. Maiden name stated as Rosa Fries. Marriage License issued by Whitley County, in 1868; book 2A: Page 518.

 | Joe Riley Joe left home when he was quite young. Some stories relate as early as 15 or 16 years of age. Clearly Joe was a capable person, with an excellent mind, and a tender heart. He was also a tough man, with some stories relating a physical toughness that made him an often feared man. He demonstrated the pioneer spirit of his father, a sense of nationalism, and a sense of country. |

 | Death certificate of Joseph L. Riley Joe suffered a debilitating stroke and spent the last seventeen years of his life in the Whitehall Convalescent Home near Farmington, Michigan. Kate cared for him at home for the first years, but her health failed and a convalescent home was the only practical way of caring for Joe. He is remembered by his eldest grandson as a loving, caring man filled with compassion and love--even in his physical condition. |
