During the 1970's Andy and Ron were masonry contractors in Michigan. Andy's brother George acquired the P.H. Piper Company--a firm that had done the construction work for the Stroh's Brewery Company since the early 1930's. Andy and Ron would work at the Brewery during the winter, relining their brewing kettles with firebrick. |

In about 1953 Andy built a cottage on Vineyard Lake, near Brooklyn, Michigan. Next door, seen to the left of Andy, his father Emerson built a cabin too. Emerson later built yet another cabin with a great view of the lake. |

The funeral service for Velma was conducted by family at a local church. The burial was scheduled for the following Monday, but the grave digger failed to open the grave. He was contacted, and came out--digging the grave while Sherry, Linda and Ron waited. A personal gravesite service was held. Both Andy and Velma were buried in the same grave; to which Sherry included the remains of the small dog that Velma had come to love. |

 | Ron and Andy just back from a fishing trip
Nearly every Sunday, the family would go deep sea fishing on the Charter Boat "Blue Marlin" out of the Hillsboro Inlet in Pompano Beach, Florida. On this day Andy caught a 47 pound sail fish. Ronnie fished a little, but didn't have the strength to reel in the catch and was quickly relieved. He also suffered from motion sickness, and was usually sick most of the time. But...memories are fondest after they are over! |

 | Invoice for 1946 Ford Deluxe Tudor
During WW2 all critical items were rationed. This included things like butter, sugar, tires, and even toys such as bicycles and wagons. Auto plants were converted to produce tanks, airplanes, jeeps and similar items to support the war. On October 31st, 1946 Andy took Ronnie to the Hi Dawson Ford Dealership and purchased a new Ford. It was truly deluxe, and included such niceties as colored wheels, a hot water heater to keep the interior of the vehicle warm, a side (outside) mirror, a spare tire, and chrome wheel rings.
Before going in, Andy gave Ronnie his $669 cash down payment, and safely placed it in his pocket. When the deal was consummated, Andy told Ronnie "Pay the Guy." Ronnie then pulled out the money and paid the salesman--to everyone's astonishment.
Notice that Andy made payments of $43.06 for fifteen months on the balance owed.
This was one of those stories that will always be remembered in the Snowden family. In a time when this sort of thing was simply not done. |
