Story of Mariah's plight provided by Velma Riley Snowden

"Sometime in the 30's, my Mom contacted her older sister Mariah in Russia. She and her two children were having difficult times as her husband was in the Russian Army, I believe. So my Dad suggested he and my mother send Mariah money to come to America and we would get them situated here in this country. The American Consulate and the Russian Consulate sent all the necessary papers and applications, etc. Both parties submitted it all along with a sizeable check to cover the fees and passage for Mariah and 2 children. This was sent and nothing ever becae of the move. My parents tried for years to investigate it but it was a lost cause. Someone just didn't follow through and the money was taken evidently."
