    Notes
    • Source: Mary Doyle/Velma Snowden. John emigrated two the United States at the age of 9. He had a sister, who was 8 at the time of emigration, named Margaret. Margaret married C.E. Finch from Coldwater, Michigan.

Note: Based upon immigration data provided by Simon and Helena Wiand, John likely was born the year of their emmigration, being 1875. One census listing, shortly after the death of John, indicates John was born in Pennsylvania. This appears highly probably; as well as a link to German Anabaptists (Dunkards); which is further supported by spouse Catherine possibly being involved with the Dunkard religion in her youth. The Riley family tradition indicates the grandfather of Catherine was Irish; but evidence supports a strong possibility that he was of German descent, and associated with the Dunkards. This is further verified by a report that Andrew Riley’s real name was Andrew Reilach. Andrew married Catharine Hoover, a proven German Baptist (Dunkard), as did other of Andrew’s children. Catherine’s mother, Rosa, was a devout Catholic; but shortly after her death her son (Catherine’s younger brother) Joseph Leo Riley had one or more of his children baptised in the Church of the Brethren (Dunkerd).
