Tombstone of Polly Patton
Inscription says "Mary wife of Daniel Hoover." Polly had married Ephraim Knott some time after Daniel Hoover's death; but the tombstone makes it clear that Daniel was the love of her life.
Mary Polly Patton Hoover Knott was buried in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Shelby County, Illinois. This cemetery was associated with the Mount Carmel Methodist Episcopal Church, adjacent to it.
The ME Church joined with the Brethren Church and others during the 1880's--giving an indication that Mary Polly, possibly Daniel Hoover, and others were sympathetic toward the anabaptist movement popular on the frontier at the time. |
